Capezzana Extra Virgin Olive Oil

SORRY, SOLD OUT!!

It always amazes me that the artisans who make food, like olive oil, by hand, can produce at such a consistently high level, year after year. That's not to say that hand-made food is always the same, because it isn't; all sorts of factors out of the producer's control affect the harvest every year. I'm telling you all of this in order to introduce an olive oil that I have tasted almost every year in the past decade: Tenuta di Cappezana, made in Tuscany, Italy.

It is always very, very good. Tuscan oils can be very "big" with raw green vegetal flavors, bold fruitiness and breathtaking peppery finishes. Capezzana gives a faithful nod to all of those regional characteristics but in a more understated, suave sort of way. It's more "Kevin Spacey" than "Vin Diesel" in terms of character.

Why are some Olive Oils so expensive??

As goes wine, so goes olive oil.

In other words, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Colivita or Monini olive oils¡ªwe sell a ton of it and I use them all the time¡ªto cook with or to make my own dressings or to marinate meats. And there's nothing wrong with a great $8 bottle of red table wine. I drink it with dinner all the time.

But to drizzle over salad or veggies or dipping with bread I want the artisan, hand picked, unfiltered, cold pressed EVOO from a little town in Italy - and that oil just costs more. Just like our fresh picked super sweet Big Guy Tomatoes from Crossroad Farm in Post Mills, Vermont costs more than a supermarket tomato. Enjoy! I promise, you can taste the difference!
