Marques de Valdueza Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Four famous varieties of olives (Hojiblanca, Arbequina, Morisca, and Picual) are grown on the Perales de Miraflores estate in Extramadura in south western Spain to produce this truly lovely handmade olive oil. And it's the Morisca olive variety that makes Marques a very special oil. A dominant olive variety in Exremedura it's got a tartness and spice that when added to the other varieties of oil gives the overall blend it's body and "jean se que."

It's got a big fruity, slightly grassy aroma, and the flavor is well-balanced and smooth, smooth, smooth. Apples and almonds come to mind, with the barest hint of spice in the finish. Absolutely incredible on delicate greens and fish. And it's also fantastic as a dipping oil with your favorite fresh baguette.

Why are some Olive Oils so expensive??

As goes wine, so goes olive oil.

In other words, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Colivita or Monini olive oils—we sell a ton of it and I use them all the time—to cook with or to make my own dressings or to marinate meats. And there's nothing wrong with a great $8 bottle of red table wine. I drink it with dinner all the time.

But to drizzle over salad or veggies or dipping with bread I want the artisan, hand picked, unfiltered, cold pressed EVOO from a little town in Italy—and that oil just costs more. Just like our fresh picked super sweet Big Guy Tomatoes from Crossroad Farm in Post Mills, Vermont costs more than a supermarket tomato. Enjoy! I promise, you can taste the difference!
