Red Kite Candy Caramels, Dark Chocolate Toffee
Made by hand in the small town of Thetford, Vermont, Red Kite Candies epitomize the small-batch, artisanal foods we prize. Elaine McCabe has made her special sweets for years, finally turning her passion into a business when demand grew and word of mouth spread.
Sourcing ingredients from Vermont is important to Elaine, and a big reason why her treats are so special. Organic Vermont milk and cream, and European-style cultured butter are the foundation of her products, which are enhanced with local maple syrup as well as Belgian chocolate and organic nuts. Her caramels are superb—rich and buttery, just chewy enough, and not cloyingly sweet. My favorite are the Chai caramels, which are flavored with sweet spices that linger in the mouth for ages, but the Fleur de Sel caramels do give them a run for their money. Her Caramel Collection includes a full pound of Original, Pecan, Fleur de Sel and Chai caramels for those who don’t want to have to choose their favorite.
Red Kite Toffees are made with that great Vermont butter, organic sugar, organic almonds and Belgian chocolate. Crunchy, rich, and sweetly flavored with vanilla and sea salt, it is what I always hope toffee will be when I buy it, but which it so rarely is when I open the package and eat it. Fresh-tasting, down to the last bit of almond, this is an exceptional confection to give or to keep. Red Kite Candies are Vermont foods at their very best—hand-made, locally-sourced, and delicious!
