
Rick’s Picks Smokra
Rick Field learned how to make pickles when he was a kid by helping his mother in the kitchen of their summer home in Barnard Vermont (just up the road from Woodstock). As a grown up he had a career in film and TV, but when that ended he turned his attention back to the world of pickles. But not just any pickles—pickles with a twist. His “Smokra” is a good example: delicious, crisp pickled okra in a brine flavored with smoked paprika and chili flakes. These are great right out of the jar as a snack or with drinks. And okra-haters please note: they’re not in the least bit slimy! Really! Prepare to be converted!
